And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on earth.
Here’s to the chaotic souls,
To the confused ones who
Cannot ever get it right,
Here’s to the exam failed
Even though you studied all night,
And the lover who left because
You couldn’t turn up on time.
Here’s to all the things you have
Ever lost, all the times,
The reason unknown,
The thing you counted on
Did not materialise.
Listen to you soul’s caged
Bark, mark the disorder
With an ordered breath,
Go up and out of your
Crazy little head....
Take service for forces greater
Than time’s little plans, greater
Than your not-quite-right job,
Go higher, lose your words,
And if you hit some
Inexplicable calm just as you see All has gone to shit,
Just as you stop to smell a flower growing
Alone in the side of a wall,
Then, dear friend, you have begun.
This is the famous knowing,
In that breeze of groundless joy,
In the murmurations of life under
An uncontrollable sky, you know,
And can only wish everyone to come too,
Come to first call ourselves beloved,
Then, in the union of our
Breath, feel ourselves beloved, even so.
